Panama supports ship-owners, operators, owners, and Greek economic groups

The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) has been following closely the financial situation in Greece, an important partner of our country in trade and Merchant Marine matters.

The Hellenic Republic is going through a temporary financial crisis which, we are confident, will have a successful outcome, but which requires the support of the international community.

Consequently, the Maritime Authority of Panama, through the Directorate General of Merchant Marine, acknowledging the critical economic situation of Greece, a country with close bonds of friendship and collaboration with Panama, has decided to extend the payment of taxes and fees due to expire at the Consulate of Piraeus, Greece, until August 31, 2015, without surcharges and interest, in order to support all ship-owners, operators, owners, and the Greek economic groups whose vessels carry the Panamanian flag.

The Administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority, Mr. Jorge Barakat, announced this commercial support to HGC Agisilaos Anastasakos, Director of Maritime Policy Hellenic Maritime Ministry, within the framework of the meeting of the General Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) which took place in London.
